About Me

Sylvain Laroque

Winner of seven Oliviers, including six for Author(s) of the Year and one for Show of the Year, Sylvain Larocque has been in the wonderful world of comedy for nearly 30 years.

A bilingual Montreal humorist, Sylvain has made his mark from coast to coast with his performances and writing in both English and French. As a stand-up and writer, he has participated in over 20 editions of the Just for Laughs Festival and 10 editions of the Just for Laughs Festival performing in televised galas, solo shows and as a script editor for the Galas. He also hosted Galas du Grand Rire for 5 years and participated in several ComédiHa Galas.

Sylvain has never stopped accumulating honors. His writing for the series Un gars, une fille earned him a Gemini Award and his texts, which have been performed by many great Quebec comedians (Jean-Michel Anctil, Martin Petit, Patrick Groulx, Laurent Paquin, Marc Dupré, Philippe Bond, etc.), have been awarded the prestigious Olivier trophy for author of the year 6 times. In addition, Sylvain has participated in the texts of several famous television galas such as the Galas de Artis, the Olivier, Just for Laughs, the Jutras, etc.

Sylvain has produced 4 solo shows, one of which earned him the coveted Olivier trophy for show of the year.

In the meantime, Sylvain has co-hosted on CKOI 96.9 FM radio, played on the big screen (Camping Sauvage), and performed in the theater as part of the cast of the play Ladies’ Night and Cabaret Bio-dégradable.

Internationally, Sylvain has performed at the Montreux Laughter Festival in Switzerland, at the Just for Laughs Festival in Nantes, at two editions of the Paris fait sa comédie Festival and at the Voorire Festival in Liège, in addition to opening for Anne Roumanoff at the Bobino Theater and performing solo for 6 months in Paris.

In English, he has participated in several Canadian Comedy Tours across Canada and is a regular at the popular Comedy Nest in Montreal.

A bilingual humorist and author, Sylvain has translated all 7 seasons of the series Un gars une fille into English and participated in the adaptation of the 2 seasons of Corner Gas, the animated series.

Relevant, intelligent and always funny, the comedian never falls into elitism or vulgarity; even less into the easy way. And it is thanks to his immense talent for juggling words that the “gag killer” has carved out a place for himself among the must-see comedians of the Quebec landscape.

In addition to offering conferences across the province, Sylvain Larocque has been a municipal councillor for the city of Longueuil (St-Charles district) for nearly a year, a member of the Board of Directors of the Réseau de Transport de l’agglomération de Longueuil (RTL), a member of the Board of Directors of the Conseil des Arts de Longueuil and a member of the Commission de la Culture et du Patrimoine de la Communauté Métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM).
Comedian, bilingual host and author, lecturer and city councillor, Sylvain Larocque is all of these!
